    Red hybrid is becoming quite “popular” in Nigeria now. I say popular in quotes because tilapia in general is only farmed by few farmers presently, but among the few they now readily buy the red hybrid fingerlings.

    Red tilapia is not a species….it is a hybrid of two and sometimes three species…I think changing the title can save the scientific strength of the site…but it is a very good subject…In Egypt, where red tilapia was introduced since more than 30 years the fish is not having acceptance in the market for its color, people prefer the normal species rather than hybrids…so nowadays the fis is not produced in commercial farming units…..
